The first time I stepped onto a golf course was in sixth grade. I attended a First Tee class with my sister and at the time, I didn’t even own a collared shirt. Reflecting on my time playing competitive golf from middle school through college, I know where I developed my drive to outperform and achieve success. As a woman playing a male-dominated sport, respect was never given but always had to be earned. As soon as I stepped onto Flagler’s campus, I was eager to prove myself.
In my freshman year, I proved to be a versatile athlete as I became a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), logged over 100 volunteer hours, and won the Athlete of Character Award at the Saints Choice Awards. In my sophomore year, I was nominated to be President of SAAC and led weekly meetings where I spear-headed on-campus fundraising events benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In April of last year, I represented all Flagler College athletes at the National NCAA Leadership Forum in Baltimore, Maryland.
